Using this program is easy, but we will give you a few pointers to make it even easier.
Scrolling
The pages in this course contain a wealth of information. You will often need to scroll down and up. Some students use the mouse pointing to the scrollbar on the right or bottom of the screen, while others prefer to use the directional arrow keys to the right of the alpha keypad. Either way works fine.

Prerequisites
In order to experience the training fully, you will need to use a computer with an Internet connection using at least a 28.8kps modem and version 6 or higher (we recommend 6 or higher) of the Microsoft Internet Explorer Browser. You can obtain this, free of charge using the link below and following the online instructions for installation. Your color setting should be 256 or greater. Our courses are designed for a screen resolution setting of 800 x 600 or greater (right click on your desktop, preferences, settings).

Browser Settings:
Our courses use Active Server Pages. In order for these to function properly, you will need to use certain browser settings. The Microsoft Internet Explorer (IE) default browser settings should be fine, but in case these have been changed:

  • Internet Explorer (IE) - View/Internet Options/Security - set to medium or low. Then click Advanced. Go down to Cookies. Either Always accept or Prompt before accepting should be checked. Just below this is Java VM. Java JIT compiler enabled and Java logging enabled (at least) should be checked.
Finally, a word about fonts...Our courses require a great deal of reading from your screen. On a screen, sans-serif fonts (like Arial) are easier on your eyes. You may wish to set your fonts to view in Arial. This is also under View/Internet Options for IE.
How to Login
Your branch administrator will assign a 9 digit group training number to you. Please use this number along with your 3 to 4 digit Branch Number to complete your registration.

Glossary of Terms
The top navigation bar of these courses feature a link to a Glossary of Terms that is accessible at any time. This glossary opens in a separate window. Glossary terms appear highlighted throughout the courses. You may also click on these highlighted terms at any time to view their definition. The terms will appear in red. If you use Netscape they may appear blue.

You can try it now...EMSI.

Remember to close the glossary window after each use by clicking on the "x" in the top right hand corner.

Taking a Lesson
After gaining access to a course, you will see a lesson outline. Please note: lessons should be initially taken in sequence. After you have completed a lesson, you may review it at any time, as long as your registration and active session have not timed out.

Simply click on a lesson and you will be taken to that lesson.
The Course Outlines look like this:

At the top of each lesson page you will see text indicating which lesson you are taking (screen left), as well as navigational elements (screen right) that will allow you to get around with minimum effort.

These navigational elements are:
Takes you to the previous page in sequence
Moves you to the EMSI training Table of Contents
Will end your current session
Opens a glossary of helpful terms and acronyms in a separate window
Takes you to the next page in sequence
There are other Navigational elements that appear throughout the courses:
Appears at the end of a lesson and takes you back to the first page of that lesson.
Like the Continue button on the top navigational bar, this appears at the bottom of each page and will take you to the next page in sequence.
Taking The Certification Exam(s)
Access to each EMSI Certification Exam is only available once you have completed all the lessons in the training course. After gaining access to the exam, you will be given brief instructions and will be able to continue on to take the examination. When you have completed the Exam, please submit it for grading by clicking on the Submit Button.

Your exam will be graded and a notification of pass or fail will be issued to your Branch Manager immediately. Your score will be recorded. You will receive notification of which questions you missed should you care to review them.
